As we head into the final 7 weeks of school, I have a number of things I want to share with everyone. Our book fair runs through the 24th of this month. This is the Half-price book fair so it is an excellent opportunity to stock up on summer reading for the family! Our Relay for Life team will participate in the Walhalla area relay event this Friday, April 25th beginning at 7:00 pm at the Walhalla High School football stadium. We invite all of our students and their families to join us. Our team and school have done an excellent job of raising money for the American Cancer Society again this year. From what I understand, we have met our goal and that means I will become an ice cream sundae on field day! I am sure everyone is looking forward to that but me!
On the academic side, our students and staff continue to work hard. Third, fourth and fifth grade students and teachers are busy preparing for the PACT tests while kindergarten, first and second grade students and teachers continue to work to ensure everyone is well prepared for the next grade level. I continue to feel blessed to work with such a dedicated group of students, families and staff. One example of this is that we were recently recognized by the Education Oversight Committee for Closing the Achievement Gap for our free and reduced lunch students. Only about 12% of the elementary and middle schools in the state received this award.
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5-9 and I hope you will take the time to say thanks to a teacher who has made a difference in your life and/or your child's life.
If you haven't visited with us lately, please stop by and see all of the wonderful things that are taking place at our school.
